The Sacramento Sheriff Department is investigating whether a body found in south Sacramento late Tuesday morning is related to an earlier nearby report of shots fired.
“They are probably related,” said Lisa Bowman, a spokeswoman for the department.
At 11 a.m. deputies responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Golden Meadow Drive and Stevenson Avenue. At the scene, they found multiple bullet casings, but no victims, Bowman said.
Approximately 45 minutes later, a waste management employee called authorities after seeing a man slumped over in a damaged vehicle partially in the roadway on the 7900 block of Spring Garden Way – less than a mile away. The man in his 30s or 40s was pronounced dead on the scene and the coroner has been called, Bowman said.

There were no bullet casings immediately found at the second site.
Bowman said it was too early to confirm the man drove from the area where shots were reported fired to where his vehicle came to rest.
