Citrus Heights police seek witnesses to Monday morning scooter crash

Citrus Heights police seek witnesses to a motorized scooter crash early Monday at Sunrise Boulevard and Antelope Road, injuring the scooter driver and a passenger.

Officers responded about 3:35 a.m. to a report of a motorcycle down in the roadway. Upon arrival, they determined that a motorized scooter had struck the median, and both the driver and passenger had been ejected.

An initial investigation indicated that the scooter was northbound in the southbound lanes of Sunrise Boulevard approaching Antelope Road. The scooter driver attempted to negotiate back to the northbound lanes, but hit the median, according to a Police Department news release.

The driver and passenger were transported to an area hospital. The driver was admitted and was listed in critical condition Tuesday, according to police. The passenger was treated for injuries and was released. Police said preliminary information indicated that alcohol likely was a factor in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Police Department’s traffic unit at (916) 727-5500.
