Sacramento police announced the arrest of a third suspect in the May shooting at a Natomas park in which a man was killed and six other people, including a 7-year-old girl, were injured.
Sacramento homicide detectives traveled to Las Vegas on Friday and took 22-year-old Avery Hill into custody. Hill was arrested on suspicion of homicide and attempted homicide and booked into Sacramento County jail. Warrants and additional charges are pending, according to a Police Department news release.
Two other men, Orlando Rhinehart, 28, and Kelly Thomas, 22, were arrested in August in connection with the shooting, which occurred about 5 p.m. May 10. Police said two armed gunmen pulled up in a vehicle on the east side of Peregrine Park in the Gateway West neighborhood. The pair approached a group of about 50 people gathered for a child’s birthday party and fired shots. One armed partygoer returned gunfire.
Jacoby James, 29, was killed in the shooting. Six other people were taken to area hospitals and later released.

A warrant for Hill was issued Aug. 25, police said. At the time, Hill was in custody in Las Vegas on unrelated charges. The police homicide unit and Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office subsequently worked to extradite Hill to California.
