A section of northbound I-5 just south of Sutterville Road in Sacramento is expected to remain closed until about 10 p.m. as cleanup continues following a the crash of a big rig late Thursday afternoon.
The single-vehicle crash was reported at 4:23 p.m. California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Michael Bradley said the big rig experienced a mechanical problem and struck an attenuator, or crash cushion, on the freeway, then overturned. The cab caught fire, but the driver was able to get out unharmed, Bradley said.
The truck was transporting clothing and other merchandise for Ross Dress for Less stores.
Bradley said traffic is being diverted to Highway 50 during the closure.
