A 19-year-old man killed late Friday in Citrus Heights was the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting, police said Saturday.
“We can definitely say it was targeted,” said Citrus Heights police Lt. Jason Russo. “It was not a random act.”
Investigators on Saturday continue to seek leads in the shooting, which happened about 11:22 p.m. in the 7800 block of Sayonara Drive, near Lialana Way, Citrus Heights police said. Officers had received numerous calls from residents who heard gunshots and a collision at Sayonara and Lialana, arriving to find a car struck by gunfire and an unconscious man behind the wheel.
Officers tried to revive the man ahead of paramedics’ arrival. The man was taken by Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District paramedics to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name has not been released. No one else was hurt in the shooting.

Witnesses told police that the fatal shots were fired from a car last seen driving west on Sayonara, but Russo said investigators had few other clues and are seeking additional witnesses and surveillance footage to develop further leads.
