A man is facing 20 years to life in state prison after a Sacramento Superior Court jury conviction Tuesday for a battery of crimes stemming from the 2013 rape and burglary of a disabled woman.
Abraham Arroyo was 21 at the time of the Dec. 21 attack at the woman’s Power Inn Road apartment. As originally reported, Arroyo knocked on the 43-year-old victim’s door claiming to be there for “maintenance.” When she refused to let him in, he smashed the front window, entered the apartment and raped the woman, who uses a wheelchair. The Sacramento County jury found him guilty of burglary, assault, forcible rape and robbery. The penalty is enhanced because the rape was committed during the commission of a burglary.
Sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 3 in the court’s Dept. 24.
