A 23-year-old man is in jail, accused of attacking his 70-year-old roommate with a cleaver Tuesday night.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence in the 9700 block of Mira Del Rio Drive, north of Folsom Boulevard and Bradshaw Road, about 9 p.m. regarding a violent assault on a 70-year-old man. The victim reported that his roommate had attacked him with a knife, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
When deputies arrived, the suspect, identified as Colby Levitz, was being subdued by a neighbor who had heard the commotion. Both Levitz and the victim were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Levitz subsequently was arrested and booked into Sacramento County jail on suspicion of aggravated mayhem, attempted homicide and outstanding warrants.

Although the reason for the attack is not known, deputies determined that Levitz attacked the victim with a cleaver and in a resulting struggle, he allegedly mutilated the victim’s ear. The victim suffered numerous cuts, which are not believed to be life-threatening, sheriff’s officials said.
