Sacramento police have identified the parolee who holed up in his apartment with his children while officers tried to negotiate his surrender.
Police said that he is Deon Edward Hampton, 27, of Natomas. He was arrested on suspicion of evading police officers in a reckless manner, violation of parole and other charges.
Police said they tried to pull over Hampton’s vehicle about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in downtown Sacramento. However, Hampton, who was known to be a parolee, recklessly drove with officers in pursuit to his apartment in Natomas near Azevedo Drive and West El Camino Avenue, according to police.
Once he fled into his residence with two of his children, police set up a perimeter and began a long period of speaking with Hampton to get him to come out of the apartment. He eventually peacefully surrendered shortly after noon and was taken into custody.
