Raymond Marcos Cortez was killed in December 2011 in North Sacramento. Whatever happened with the case? Did they find the person responsible for this?

In responding to this question Sept. 19, we incorrectly reported that there had been no arrests in the shooting death of 25-year-old Raymond Marcos Cortez.

Sacramento police report that Harold Powers was arrested in the case and pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter in September 2012.

Police received multiple calls of shots fired about 7 p.m. Dec. 4, 2011. One call came from a woman reporting that her brother had been shot.

Police found Cortez dead on the floor of an apartment in the 2300 block of Oakmont Street.

According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, Powers was sentenced to 14 years in state prison. Now 26 years old, he is incarcerated at a California out-of-state correctional facility in Oklahoma.
