A two-alarm fire destroyed two South Land Park homes and badly damaged a third Saturday evening, sending a plume of smoke above central Sacramento.
The fire started around 4:30 p.m. at a home on the east end of Meer Way, a small residential street near Freeport Boulevard and Sutterville Road, said Roberto Padilla, Sacramento Fire Department spokesman. Without much space between homes on the street, the fire quickly spread.
People were inside each of the homes when the fire began but no one was injured, Padilla said.
Roughly 50 firefighters contained the blaze within minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
