A fisherman who was pulled from the waters of the American River on Thursday was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s office identified him as Vai Vang, 28, of Sacramento.
A Sacramento Fire Department spokesman said that at about 7:50 a.m. Thursday reports were received of a fisherman who developed trouble in the water when he tried to cross the river.
Firefighters in two inflatable boats searched the river. Specialized firefighter rescue swimmers also went into the water to search for Vang who was eventually found.

Crews pulled Vang from the water and he was transported to the hospital. Vang was pronounced dead at 9:13 a.m. Thursday, according to the coroner’s website.
