The pilot killed in the crash of a Calfire air tanker near Yosemite on Tuesday was from San Jose, authorities said Wednesday afternoon.
Geoffrey “Craig” Hunt, 62, died when his plane crashed while fighting the Dog Rock fire near Yosemite National Park on Tuesday afternoon.
“We continue to mourn the tragic loss of Craig,” said Calfire director Ken Pimlott. “We know that firefighting is an inherently dangerous job, but Craig made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Hunt was a 13-year veteran pilot of DynCorp International under contract with Calfire.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
Hunt is survived by his wife and two daughters. In his honor, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
Gov. Jerry Brown issued a statement extending his condolences go to Hunt’s family, friends and colleagues.
