Sacramento police seek hit-and-run driver in bicyclist’s death

Sacramento police seek information regarding a hit-and-run collision in the Natomas area early Sunday morning in which a bicyclist died.

Officers responded about 2:26 a.m. to a report of a collision in the westbound lane of West El Camino Avenue on the Interstate 5 overcrossing. They found a 61-year-old man unresponsive on the sidewalk on the north side of West El Camino Avenue and a severely damaged bicycle next to him, according to a Police Department news release. The man, identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as David Heredia of Sacramento, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said evidence indicates the cyclist and the vehicle were traveling westbound on West El Camino Avenue. Detectives are looking for anyone who might have witnessed the collision and are canvassing the area for surveillance video.

Police are asking for the community’s help in identifying the vehicle and driver that left the scene.
