Northern California man arrested after toddler suffers suspected fentanyl overdose at home
A Grass Valley man was arrested Tuesday after a toddler suffered what deputies called a suspected fentanyl overdose in a home scattered with narcotics and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
Deputies with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office received a call Tuesday evening seeking help for a 2-year-old boy overdosing on drugs. The boy was unresponsive and not breathing when deputies arrived to a home on the 12000 block of Rough and Ready Highway, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
The toddler was given Narcan, a medication that reverses an opioid overdose, and taken to a hospital in critical condition, the release said. He was treated and stabilized.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the home and said they found suspected fentanyl, suspected methamphetamine, pipes, syringes, Narcan and several other items.
“It should be noted many of these items could be easily accessed by a child and some were found on the floor,” the release said.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and possessing drug paraphernalia, deputies said.
He was in custody at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility, according to online jail records.
