Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives were investigating a home burglary in the Rosemont area in which a resident is believed to have shot the intruder.
The Sheriff’s Department received a report of a burglary at 2:09 a.m. Tuesday in the 8900 block of Autumnwood Drive. A resident called to report someone trying to break into his home when a family member reportedly shot the intruder. The intruder was last seen running from the home before deputies arrived, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
Deputies found a window screen had been cut at the point where the intruder may have entered the home. Shell casings were found inside.
A resident identified the intruder by first name as someone who possibly is a frequent visitor to a neighborhood residence, sheriff’s officials said. Deputies found no blood inside or outside the home, and attempts to find the intruder, including checks with hospitals for patients with gunshot wounds, were unsuccessful.
