A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Sacramento police investigating a domestic violence call found a woman injured by an ax.

Jamaal Ringgold was arrested Sunday after a foot chase and a struggle that left one officer with a minor injury, according to a written statement from the Sacramento Police Department. He was booked at Sacramento County jail and held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder, domestic violence and resisting arrest.

According to police, officers responded to a call for help around 6 a.m. Sunday from a woman in the 7800 block of Center Parkway. The victim was found with a “significant injury” from an ax, officials said.

Officers later found and arrested Ringgold after a chase and struggle, police said.
