Sacramento police are investigating the death of a man who died Sunday following a gunshot injuries suffered a week earlier.
Officers responded about at 9:11 p.m. Aug. 15 to a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound at a home in the 6400 block of Somis Way in south Sacramento. When officers arrived, they found 56-year-old Duong Chung with a gunshot wound to his leg, according to a Police Department news release. The officers reported that Chung’s family members were at the home.
Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived, and Chung was taken to an area hospital, where he died Sunday.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were called to the Somis Way home at the time of the shooting due to the seriousness of Chung’s injuries.

During the preliminary investigation, detectives determined that the incident might be drug-related. They had not ruled out the possibility that the injuries were accidental or self-inflicted. The cause of death is pending completion of the Sacramento County coroner’s investigation, and no arrests have been made.
