An ice cream container from a fast-food restaurant led to the arrest of a man suspected of burglarizing a South Lake Tahoe motel.
Police responded Thursday to a report of a burglary that occurred at the Trailhead Lodge after business hours. Surveillance camera footage showed a man entering the locked, unattended front lobby of the motel by forcing open the front door and taking currency from the cash drawer behind the employee counter, according to a South Lake Tahoe Police Department news release.
Police said the surveillance photos also showed the man carrying a “McFlurry” ice cream container from McDonald’s.
The suspect, wearing the same clothes, was observed on surveillance footage at McDonald’s just before the motel burglary eating a McFlurry ice cream and filling out a job application for the restaurant, police said.

Officers collected the job application as evidence and identified the suspect as Louis William Fiori Jr. of South Lake Tahoe, but they were unable to locate Fiori at the time.
On Sunday, Fiori was located at the McDonald’s restaurant, where officers interviewed and arrested him in connection with the Trailhead Lodge burglary. At this time, police said, they do not believe the motel burglary is related to other burglaries previously reported in the area of the “Y” in South Lake Tahoe last week.
Fiori was booked into El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of burglary.
