The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a man who was found in Rutter Park shortly after midnight with a gunshot wound.
The sheriff’s communications center received several calls from residents in the area of Palmer House and Scottsdale drives in south Sacramento County, reporting the sound of gunshots. When deputies arrived, they found a man in his early 20s in Rutter Park on Palmer House Drive. He had been shot at least one time, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
Medical personnel were summoned and he was taken to a nearby hospital. Detectives also responded to the scene, but they have been unable to identify any potential witnesses to determine a motive for the shooting or a suspect description, sheriff’s officials said.
The Sheriff’s Department was notified shortly after noon Thursday that the man had died of his wounds. His name has not been released pending notification of family.
