Woman killed in Elk Grove identified by coroner

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office Thursday released the name of a woman whose death is the subject of a homicide investigation.

She was identified as Marissa Pineda de Almanza, 37, of Elk Grove.

Elk Grove police said her body was found Wednesday afternoon at an apartment in the 9200 block of Franklin Boulevard. Officers responded at 4:53 p.m. to the Terracina at Laguna Creek Apartments after a relative found her unresponsive in an apartment, according to a police news release.

Medical personnel arrived and confirmed that de Almanza was dead. Police said there were obvious signs of trauma to the woman’s body.

As of Thursday afternoon, no suspects had been identified in the case. Elk Grove police spokesman Officer Christopher Trim said detectives had spoken with de Almanza’s husband, who was cooperative.

Trim said the woman shared the apartment with her two children, a boy and a girl who he described as high school and middle school age.

Trim said there were no signs of forced entry. He said the woman’s vehicle was in the parking lot and was towed by police in the hope it might yield evidence.
