The Firefighters Burn Institute is alerting people to a telephone solicitation scam that purports to seek funds to aid injured firefighters.
Institute officials said they received word that someone is falsely conducting a telephone marketing campaign. Callers tell people they are soliciting funds to help firefighters who have been burned in the Northern California fires, or to help firefighters fighting California fires with their training and equipment. Officials said the Firefighters Burn Institute does not do this type of fundraising.
The Sacramento-based institute is a nonprofit organization that is actively helping families of firefighters who suffered burn injuries and will continue to help the firefighters on their road to recovery once they leave the Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Center at UC Davis Medical Center, according to a news release.
