Sacramento police investigate fatal shooting at Natomas shopping center

Sacramento police are investigating a shooting in a Natomas shopping center parking lot that left one man dead Monday night.

Police spokesman Officer Justin Brown said officers responded shortly after 8:30 p.m. to the 3600 block of Truxel Road regarding a report of gunfire and vehicles leaving the area. They found a man unresponsive in the parking lot, and he was declared dead at the scene. Brown said victim appeared to be in his 50s.

The the shooting occurred in a busy shopping center that includes Home Depot and Staples stores, Brown said, and police believe a number of people witnessed the incident. As of about 10:30 p.m., he said, homicide investigators were just arriving on the scene.

Brown said the shooting is not believed to have been a random incident.
