Elk Grove police identify suspect in commercial burglaries

Elk Grove police are asking the public’s help in locating a man accused of burglarizing restaurants and retail businesses in the city.

Police say they have identified 35-year-old William Cook as the person shown in surveillance video breaking into the businesses.

Through their investigations, detectives have connected Cook to at least four commercial burglaries that have occurred in Elk Grove since Aug. 1, according to a Police Department news release. A $250,000 felony burglary warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Police said Cook is believed to be driving a silver or gray 1997 through 2004 model VW Golf.

Anyone with information regarding Cook’s whereabouts is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Detective Bureau at 916-478-8060 or Crime Alert at 916-443-4357. Callers to Crime Alert can remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Tips can also be sent via SMS text message by entering 274637 on a cellphone, followed by Tip732 and the message.
