Redding police Sunday were searching for a 19-year-old Redding woman who allegedly shot her father in the chest and then drove off.

Brittany Weatherbee was being sought for suspicion of attempted murder in the 11:25 p.m. Saturday shooting of her father, Michael Mattson, in the 3600 block of Churn Creek Road, Redding.

Police responding to the incident found Mattson, 35, who resides in the city of Shasta Lake, on the ground with a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition early Sunday.

Authorities say Weatherbee should be considered armed and dangerous. Police said she fled in a blue Ford Explorer with California license number 4WTE325.

People with information on the incident, or Weatherbee’s whereabouts, were being asked to contact the Redding Police Department at (530) 225-4200.

Call The Bee’s Peter Hecht, (916) 326-5539.
