A man was killed near the Sacramento River bike trail and Jibboom Street on Monday night, according to Sacramento police.
Sacramento police dispatchers received information about 8:30 p.m. Monday that an unconscious man had been found near the 400 block of Jibboom Street, just upriver from the I Street Bridge.
Sacramento Fire Department firefighters were the first on the scene, followed by police officers. Fire department medical personnel declared the 34-year-old man dead, police said.
Homicide and crime scene investigators were called to collect evidence and search for witnesses to the killing. Detectives said the man had been in a physical altercation with someone. The dead man, who has not been identified, suffered upper-body injuries. The assailant fled before the arrival of officers.
