A bicyclist who died when he was hit by an SUV before dawn Friday on the outskirts of Davis has been identified by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office as Jorge Solorio-Arroyo, 44, a Davis resident.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the Solorio-Arroyo was riding northbound on the side of County Road 99 near West Covell Boulevard about 6:30 a.m. Friday when struck by the sport-utility vehicle going in the same direction.
The driver noticed something to his right at the last second and considered swerving to his left. However, there was oncoming traffic, and he hit the bicyclist, according to the CHP.
The motorist returned, saw that he had hit the bicyclist and called 911, the CHP said.
