A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with two shootings over the past four months – one of which left a woman dead – near railroad tracks in south Sacramento, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.

Christopher Michael Franklin is facing murder and attempted murder charges for the separate incidents, according to a department news release.

Franklin was arrested Friday by sheriff’s investigators in connection with the Oct. 12 shooting death of 54-year-old Anna Marie Bernaix, whose body was found near the railroad tracks behind Gwinhurst Circle, near Calvine and Elk Grove Florin roads. Bernaix was shot in the head, according to sheriff’s officials.

Franklin was also arrested in connection with the July 10 shooting of a 35-year-old homeless man near Cottonwood Lane and Elsie Avenue, less than one mile from where Bernaix was shot, according to the Sheriff’s Department. That man was shot multiple times while he was sleeping, but he survived, police said.
