Body found by dog in American River is identified as Sacramento man

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified a man found dead in the American River in November.

A dog found the body of Jerry Monk, 42, of Sacramento floating in the water at Sutter’s Landing park in Sacramento.

The dog came upon the body about 7:35 a.m. Nov. 18. The dog’s owner phoned in the discovery, and Fire Department personnel arrived at the park near 28th Street.

The cause of death has not been released, pending toxicology results.
