Brian Kelly, a retired San Mateo fire chief, has been named interim chief of the Roseville Fire Department.
Monday was Kelly’s first day on the job. He will lead the department on a temporary basis while the search continues for a permanent chief following the departure of Chief Marcus Reed in November, according to a department news release.
Kelly has more than 35 years of fire service experience, including more than 20 years as chief of three California fire departments. He was the fire chief and emergency services director of the city of Millbrae for 12 years, the city of Union City for three years and the city of San Mateo for five years. He also served as the fire marshal of Sonoma County for three years.
Kelly retired from the city of San Mateo in 2008, and he has remained active in regional and national projects to enhance the fire service’s readiness for for emergency response, according to the news release. He served as interim chief for two other fire departments: the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District and the National Park Service Fire Department at the Presidio of San Francisco.
