The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department has launched a homicide investigation following the death of a man assaulted in Carmichael last week.
Ruben Gabriel Ambrus, 39, died Sunday after suffering head trauma in an assault Jan. 13, according to Sheriff’s Department news release.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to a medical call in the area of Fair Oaks Boulevard and Grant Avenue about 9:35 p.m. They found Ambrus and brought him to an area hospital.
Hospital personnel contacted the Sheriff’s Department because they believed Ambrus’ injuries were consistent with an assault, sheriff’s officials said.
Detectives responded and began their investigation. Witness statements confirmed that an assault occurred in the area where fire district personnel found Ambrus. Sheriff’s officials said Ambrus succumbed to his injuries Sunday at the hospital.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, but detectives believe other witnesses may have been in the area during the assault.
The Sheriff’s Department released a photo of Ambrus on Tuesday. Detectives ask anyone with information pertaining to the assault to call the Sheriff’s Department at 916-874-5115 or Crime Alert at 916-443-4357.
