A Chico woman died Monday afternoon in a head-on collision in which two other people were seriously injured near Paradise in Butte County.
The crash occurred about 2:25 p.m. on Skyway Road near Skyway Crossroad. A 1998 Dodge Neon, driven by 64-year-old Richard Wayne Wilson was westbound on Skyway in the eastbound lanes, when it collided with an eastbound 2008 Toyota Prius driven by Steve Valencia, 58, of Paradise, just west of Skyway Crossroad, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. The impact of the crash killed the 51-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the front seat of Wilson’s vehicle. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.
Valencia suffered internal injuries, and Wilson suffered a heel fracture and dislocated hip, according to the CHP. Both men were transported to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
The CHP said Wilson was believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and felony manslaughter, then released to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
