Davis police said a man they suspect of molesting a woman while posing as a massage therapist in-training has been arrested for allegedly commiting a similar offense in Colorado.

Davis investigators issued an arrest warrant for 27-year-old Robert Richard Beattie Smith last summer.

Police said that they began a sexual assault investigation in July when a woman told them that she was contacted online by a man stating he was in the process of being licensed as a massage therapist and needed hours performing massage to complete graduation requirements.

The man offered to compensate the woman for her time and also perform massage. During the massage at her home, the man, who introduced himself as “Richard,” sexually assaulted her, according to a police press release.

When the woman reacted, the man gathered his belongings and fled the apartment to a vehicle. The woman got part of the license plate numbers or letters and police were able to link the vehicle to Smith.

Although they have not been able to locate Smith, he was eventually arrested this week by Aurora, Colo., police for a allegedly committing a similar crime on a 15-year-old girl and her 21-year-old sister.
