Neat, naked man taken into custody after Rancho Cordova break-in
A man broke into an indoor soccer facility in Rancho Cordova Tuesday morning where he tidied up broken glass in the nude, poured a beer and enjoyed a candy bar before being taken into custody.
The man is seen on video throwing a piece of concrete curb through one side of a glass door about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at Metro City Soccer, 11327 Folsom Blvd. He then stepped through the door and spent the next couple of hours inside.
The video shows him at first with a sweater or sweatshirt tied around his waste. Later, he is nude and that is the way he surrenders when Rancho Cordova police arrive at about 6:20 a.m.
Robert Mills, owner of Metro City Soccer, said he was alerted about 6 a.m. by early arriving cleaning staff that someone had broken into his business, which includes an indoor pitch and a café with snacks and beer.
Mills said the man threw a piece of concrete curb through one glass door. He then stepped through the door.
“He told the cops that he wanted a place to sleep,” said Mills. “But he was pretty active for somebody wanting to find somewhere to sleep.”
The security camera shows him moving around the business, sweeping up with a broom, moving a door mat.
“He was obviously feeling guilty about breaking in because he sweeps up,” said Mills.
At some point he takes off all his clothes. But he did not ransack the office or destroy the surface of the soccer pitch.
“He had himself a beer, got a candy bar,” said Mills. “He was making himself at home. It could have been much worse.”
Mills and Rancho Cordova police met about the same time at the front door of the business about 6:20 a.m. As the officers were about to make a sweep through Metro City Soccer to make sure nobody was inside, they drew their guns when he was spotted.
“Then they realized he was not armed or clothed,” said Mills.
The man, Timothy Lee Prather, 28, was handcuffed and officers placed him in a patrol car. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Mills gave Prather a soccer league champion t-shirt. Metro City Soccer, a 23,000-square feet facility built specially for the sport, hosts several leagues on the indoor soccer field.
“I only wish I had shorts for him,” said Mills.
Mills is worried about Prather’s condition, concerned that he might have mental or drug issues. He hopes he gets the help he needs.
“I concerned about his mental state,” said Mills. “Who is going to break in and run around naked cleaning up?”
