The exterior of one house was scorched and fences of eight other homes were damaged Tuesday afternoon by a fast-moving grass fire in south Sacramento County.
The fire was reported about 3 p.m. in the 7900 block of Stevenson Avenue, west of Power Inn Road. Capt. Michelle Eidam, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokeswoman, said the fire was in a field bordered by homes and commercial buildings. The first fire crew on scene reported a 3-acre fire with the potential to grow to 15 acres. Eidam said the fire was moving quickly with the help of a steady wind.
The fire was burning up against fence lines, and 10 to 15 residences were threatened, she said. Additional fire crews were dispatched, including firefighters from the Cosumnes and Sacramento fire departments, and they began working to defend the structures.
Eidam reported about 4:15 p.m. that the fire had been contained after burning 6 1/2 acres.
