Work crew finds man dead with gunshot wound off Garden Highway

Sacramento County sheriff’s homicide detectives were called to an area off Garden Highway after a sheriff’s work project crew found a man’s body in a field Tuesday morning.

The work crew was cleaning up trash in the 5100 block of Garden Highway about 9:45 a.m. when they came upon a deceased man in the field, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. Homicide detectives were called to the scene, along with the Sacramento County coroner. A preliminary assessment determined that the 23-year-old victim had an apparent gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Tony Turnbull said it is not known when the victim was killed, or whether the shooting occurred where the body was found. Investigators also do not know the motive for the shooting.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family.
