Sacramento police continued to investigate a fatal shooting carried out early Sunday in an area of midtown known for its nightlife.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found an unresponsive man with multiple bullet wounds on the sidewalk near 20th and P streets, according to a department news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of Sunday evening, the department had not released the victim’s name or age, because his family had not been notified. Police also had not released information on possible suspects.
Department spokesman Officer Matt McPhail said investigators were still working to determine how the incident unfolded. There are several popular bars within a few blocks of the intersection.

The department is asking anyone who might have information about the crime to contact the dispatch center at 916-264-5471 or Crime Alert at 916-443-HELP (4357). You also can submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
