A Citrus Heights man was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to run down a police officer in a stolen car early Saturday morning, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said.
John Holley, 24, of Citrus Heights, was trying to steal a vehicle from Kilroy’s Towing Service in Grass Valley when an officer responded, according to a sheriff’s news release.
Holley attempted to run the officer down, it said. The officer responded by firing at Holley, the sheriff’s office said.
Holley immediately surrendered and was taken into custody and booked on charges of attempted vehicle theft and conspiracy, the news release said.

Officers found Gary Huffman, 22, of Citrus Heights, nearby and determined he had been assisting Holley with the theft. Huffman was arrested and booked on charges of conspiracy to attempt vehicle theft. He was later released on bail.
The sheriff’s department was not available to comment. The identity of the officer who shot at Holley was not released.
