The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who died after he was hit by a vehicle Tuesday night on Madison Avenue as 58-year-old James Mansfield.
The Coroner’s Office website does not list Mansfield’s city of residence.
Mansfield was hit by a vehicle near Madison Avenue and Interstate 80, and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation into his death.
The Sheriff’s Department was notified about 10:30 p.m. by the California Highway Patrol of the man being hit in the 4300 block of Madison Avenue. Initially, CHP officers were told that the victim had been intentionally struck by a hit-and-run driver.
Deputies arrived to find a man in a field who was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives were called to the scene and the driver who had left the scene was found.
An initial Sheriff’s Department investigation revealed that there was no malicious intent by the driver to hit the man. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
