Davis day care owner arrested in child molestation case

A longtime day care operator in Davis was arrested Thursday evening on suspicion of sexually molesting a 4-year-old girl.

Eduardo Alejandro Letelier, 43, and his wife have operated Ximena’s Daycare in their home in the 800 block of Braddock Court, officials say.

Lt. David Delaini of the Davis Police Department said the 4-year-old girl’s mother on Wednesday reported that her daughter had been sexually assaulted at the day care site. Delaini said that when officials arrived at Letelier’s home Thursday and served a search warrrant, Letelier escaped into the backyard and jumped over a fence, but was captured.

Letelier was arrested and booked into the Yolo County jail on Thursday on investigation of child molestation and resisting arrest. His bail is set at $1 milllion.

The state Community Care Licensing Division, responsible for day care licensing, is assisting in the investigation, Delaini said.

The day care has been in operation since 2001 with no previous complaints or reports, the licensing website reads. The maximum capacity per day is 14 children.

Letelier’s arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Yolo Superior Court in Woodland.
