A crop-duster pilot who died in a midair collision near Zamora on Saturday was identified by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office as Javone Logan Cowan, 25, of Rio Oso in Sutter County.
The collision between two crop dusters occurred about 7:45 a.m. near County Roads 99E and 13, about 3 miles east of Zamora, according to the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office. The second pilot escaped injury but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Cowan’s plane crashed in a rice field off County Road 13. The second plane landed safely in an open field just south of the wrecked plane off Road 99E.
The cause was being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
