One bicyclist was killed and another was injured in a collision involving a car near Roseville early Monday.
The two bicyclists were riding north on the right shoulder of Fiddyment Road, just north of Sunset Boulevard West, about 6:20 a.m. At the same time, a gray 2015 Ford Fusion was also traveling north on Fiddyment Road, approaching the bicyclists from behind.
The rear bicyclist swerved into the path of the Ford Fusion, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. The driver of the car, a 36-year-old man from Roseville, attempted to swerve over the double yellow lines, but was unable to do so because of oncoming traffic, CHP officials said. The right front of the Ford then struck the back of rear bicyclist, pushing him into the bicyclist directly in front of him.
The rear bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released because his family had not been notified. The second bicyclist was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with minor injuries.
