A 6-year-old girl was shot in the arm in south Sacramento County while riding in a vehicle with her mother.
The shooting occurred about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Fruitridge Road near Lawrence Drive, said Sgt. Tony Turnbull, Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman. The girl was transported to an area hospital in a private vehicle, and the injury is not believed to be life-threatening, he said.
Deputies responded to the area and located evidence of a shooting scene at the intersection of Fruitridge and Lawrence. Several shots were fired, striking the vehicle, Turnbull said. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a large white car, possibly a van or an SUV.
Turnbull said there is no known motive for the shooting and nothing to indicate at this time that it was gang-related.
