Free mosquito repellent wipes are available for neighbors participating in National Night Out on Tuesday.
The annual gatherings promote partnerships between police officers and communities and are meant to establish camaraderie among neighbors and make neighborhoods safer places to live. Residents and officers participate in thousands of neighborhoods in every state.
The outside nighttime meetings, often presented as neighborhood parties, coincide with peak mosquito activity. Because of that, Sacramento-Yolo mosquito control officials have free repellent wipes for National Night Out participants.

“We want to remind the public that personal protection against mosquitoes is critical in the prevention of West Nile virus,” said Gary Goodman, Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control district manager. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of the repellant we are offering as part of our public outreach program.”
West Nile is widespread throughout Sacramento and Yolo counties. Three local cases in people have been confirmed and six others are being investigated.
