A woman who died Thursday evening as she was crossing a West Sacramento street has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 89-year-old Justina Goncalves.
Sgt. Roger Kinney, police spokesman, said Goncalves, a West Sacramento resident, was walking across West Capitol Avenue near Maple Street about 6:30 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle. She was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where she died of her injuries.
Kinney said the woman was not in a crosswalk.
He said the driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with police in their investigation.
