17-year-old boy dies in speed-related car crash

A 17-year-old boy died in a car crash late Thursday in southeastern Sacramento County after the vehicle’s driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver, a 34-year-old man, was northbound at 11:38 p.m. on Hedge Avenue at Elder Creek Road. The car rolled over several times and fell into a ditch on the driver’s side of the car.

The driver suffered major injuries and a second passenger, a 25-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries, according to the CHP. Both were wearing seat belts, the CHP reports. They were taken to the UC Davis Medical Center.

The boy, who was not wearing his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. His name was not released.
