Davis police advise residents to keep an eye on their pocketbooks, citing an increase in the number of wallet thefts in the city in the past month.
In each case, the wallets were taken from the victim’s purse while it was in a shopping cart. Victims reported that the thefts occurred in less than 30 seconds, according to a Police Department news release.
Police offer several tips to prevent wallet thefts:

▪ Carry your purse close to your body and keep the purse closed.
▪ Be wary of individuals who strike up conversations in an attempt to distract you from your belongings. Police urge anyone whose wallet is stolen to immediately report the theft to police and financial institutions.
