A Pollock Pines man stole a large motorhome from a dealership in Rancho Cordova Saturday morning and led authorities on a high-speed chase for more than 30 miles, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Paul Erik Nelson, 40, was arrested and charged with vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, parole violation, county probation violation and vandalism. He was booked into the El Dorado County jail.

Nelson stole a 2008 Holiday Imperial, which measures 43 feet in length, from La Mesa RV Center around 9 a.m., said CHP Sgt. Chris Davis. He allegedly drove the vehicle through the dealership’s fence and tried to escape along Highway 50.

Nelson pushed the vehicle to 90 miles per hour as he drove by Folsom and through El Dorado County, Davis said. He exited the highway and headed west on Pleasant Valley Road before turning south on Highway 49, driving toward the Amador County town of Plymouth. Along the way, he allegedly blew through several red lights.

Authorities deployed a spike strip that slowed Nelson’s vehicle down, Davis said. Nelson stopped on Main Street in Plymouth and was arrested without further incident. No one was injured.
