Historically black colleges seek students at Sacramento-area recruitment fairs

Recruitment fairs for historically black colleges will take place at three local schools this week.

Recruiters from more than 35 universities will be at the fairs. Colleges represented will include Morehouse College, Stillman College, Alabama State University, Fisk University, Kentucky State University, Xavier University, Texas Southern University, Tuskegee University and Morgan State University.

The first event will be at Grant High School, 1400 Grand Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday. Sacramento High School, 2315 34th Street, will host a recruitment fair from 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Recruiters will be at Monterey Trail High School, 8661 Power Inn Road in Elk Grove on Saturday.

The free event is hosted by the United College Action Network. Attendees can register online at www.gotocollegefairs.com/California.

Students can receive application fee waivers and may be accepted on the spot at the fairs, if qualified. They also could qualify for scholarships and financial aid.

Seniors graduating in 2015 should bring several copies of their transcripts. They should also bring their SAT and ACT scores and two letters of recommendation, if available.

Essays are optional but will be accepted.
