UC Davis Provost Ralph J. Hexter met Wednesday with student protesters who are occupying the reception area outside Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi’s office on the fifth floor of Mrak Hall, but failed to convince them to leave.

“We’ve continued to tell you you’re disrupting our operations...,” Hexter said in a video recorded by student Parisa Rajabian Esfahani and posted on Facebook. “You’re going to have to leave at some point.”

Despite his efforts, students expanded their occupation Friday by taking over the halls of the third and fourth floors following a campus rally. They say they will remain until Katehi resigns, a request the chancellor has rejected.

UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi has undergone significant scrutiny and criticism during her tenure at the university, stemming from incidents such as the pepper-spraying of peacefully protesting students to her service on corporate boards.
