A new natural foods grocery store on midtown Sacramento’s R Street corridor is planning to sell booze.
The owners of Market 5-ONE-5 are seeking a conditional use permit from the city “to sell alcoholic beverages within the grocery store, including wine, beer, and distilled spirits,” according to a request under consideration Thursday by the planning commission.
The new market is under construction near 10th and R streets. It will be under the umbrella of the Raley’s brand, but will operate independently of the chain.
Market 5-ONE-5 has been described as an indoor farmer’s market, and the concept was the brainchild of Raley’s president and CEO Michael Teel.

Once finished, the market will have a bakery, deli, food prep area and seating, according to the city staff report. It is expected to open later this year.
